There were issues with the nut and the saddle on this guitar and I thought I was going to have to replace them. On inspection I found the frets were awful. In fact about the 17th fret some were popping out. I opted to leave these as I doubt they will ever be played and figured a fret level would save the nut which it did.
The saddle was very high so I sanded it down and cut new slots following the radius of the fret board. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I managed to get the action down and it plays well.
On a side note, the strings had originally been put on the tail piece upside down which means it wasn’t pressing on the front plate properly. In an ideal world I would like to replace the nut to sort the string spacing more than anything else.
Setup in open G with D’Addario 12 – 56.
