This guitar started life as a kit and has been heavily modified and carved by the owners partner. When it came to finishing the guitar and wiring it up the owner became unstuck and found themselves in over their head so they came to me. The instructions had a few key things missing (a wire going to the bridge to earth the strings being one) and the way they were switching between the guitars was to effectively remove the ends of the pickup coils from the circuit for the guitar you wanted to turn off. This didn’t work and I can only assume its as because of the way the pickups where constructed with the shield being connected to the coil end.
With jobs like this it’s about time; the more time a job takes the more expensive it is. With this in mind I swapped the pots for new ones, as cleaning the old ones top would have cost more. I also changed the wiring to match a Gibson double neck which meant new switches, the originals were really really cheap and bad. A good quality jack seemed appropriate and the cherry on top was a fret level and set for “both” guitars.
I had to route for the switch which would only fit int he bottom position, plus I added some shims to the neck pocket to get a bit of neck angle for the “tunematic” bridges. The pots holes need to be drilled larger.
Turned out pretty good for a “cheap” kit. The time that’s gone into this thing before it came to me meant it deserved to given some time and effort.
