70s SG came in from Richtone music in Sheffield. The headstock had broken in transit but it all look odd when I first saw it. There were some tiny splines under the headstock veneer and some of the break was a straight line. There was also no “Made In The USA” stamp or serial number. The fact that the headstock itself was one piece of wood and not three or five all pointed to the fact that the original headstock was long gone and this was a replacement scarfed on at some point.
There were lots of bits that needed jigsawing together and it was quite the puzzle. It’s always hard with guitars that have aged and been abused like this to match anything up and I went for a practical repair that looked as good as it could.
