Yamaha FG180

Old Yamaha in for a re-fret and a few other things to bring it back…

Once the work began I realised the neck was in pretty bad shape and the truss rod wasn’t doing much. I did my best to get the board level but this removed a lot of material and I had to replace the dots as they wore through. There is a significant dip where the fretboard meets the body and the bridge is bulging. I would usually plane this but the saddle slot ins’t deep enough.

I replaced the nut with a TUSQ one. I managed to save the saddle which was not flat on the bottom and the top was no near the fretboard radius. I address these issues and polished it up.

There be room to improve this but I’m not sure if it’s economical.

Setup with D’Addario 11 – 52.
