One of the most frustrating jobs that come into the workshop are the ones that start with the words “Have an electrical buzz.” There can be many things which can cause this, and I won’t go into them all here, but to track down the actual cause can lead you up many a garden path (see photos). With this guitar there was nothing electrically wrong, although one volume pot was faulty, I concluded that the pickup was the issue and replaced it with the Dimarzio D Activator pickup that comes as standard in the Fender equivalent. Once installed I suspect the issue might not be a broken pickup but instead one that is badly made, as the remaining “original” pickup isn’t behaving as you would expect.
Setup with D’Addario 9 – 42 strings got the action very low on this one.
