This guitar came in after the owner had tried to fix an issue where the bridge pickup sounded weak. It appeared to them that the switch was the issue but when the made the swap it didn’t solve the problem but created more.
they provided thew guitar with another replacement switch so I set to work going off traditional Seymour Duncan colour codes for the wires but got zero output from the middle pickup. On inspection I found this pickup was wired up backwards, with the earth hard wired to what would usually be the “hot”. Maybe this guitar was meant to have some out of phase sounds I thought, or maybe the middle pickup was wound backwards for some reason, either way I wasn’t sure so I wired it up so that it would work. As I suggested I found position 2 and 4 are out of phase, position 4 actually sounds ok but I would say that this is something that’s happened in the factory or possibly the shop where it was purchased.
The setup went ok but as usual with guitars like this with locking nuts, they are always way too high with option to adjust, still setup low with D’Addario 9 – 42.
I’ve left it to the owner to decide whether the sounds given from position 2 and 4 are either usable or not needed. Watch this space…
