This 70’s J45 came in initially to have a re-fret and to have the binding looked at. The binding which I assume is made of some kind of celluloid had disintegrated in quite a few places, mainly on the back of the guitar. I fed some watery lacquer into the cracks and in come cases it sucked on and gave some faulty good results, but not everywhere.
With regards to the re-fret I found some other issues which needed addressing first. The cation was very high and on inspection I found some cracks around the heal which suggests the neck block has shifted or was damaged. To remedy this the neck really needs reseating. The bridge was very slim and once I’d got the strings off the holes for the E and A strings were very worn and wouldn’t hold the fresh strings in without having the wrap going on the saddle.
The owner felt this was uneconomical so I just dd the fish repairs and a general setup with D’Addario 10 – 47.
