This Ibanez needed a low action and the owner was experiencing too much fret buzz. On inspection with the fret rocker I found a few high frets, especially the 14th and decided a fret level was the best place to start. It wasn’t until I started to level the frets that I saw how irregular the frets where, being low on the 1st and 2nd and having another dip on there bass side between the 9th and the 13th fret. After they had been levelled and dressed I set the guitar up, mainly concentrating on the nut height, which was too high. The fretboard was also incredibly dry.
I wasn’t impressed with the fret job on this guitar, I’ve seen some great Ibanez guitars in my time but this needed work. I’m not sure if its the fret wire or if there’s a machine involved in fretting the guitars but it just didn’t feel right to me.
