This guitar is back as the pickup wasn’t working right, in fact it was completely broken. Fender made this so it was almost impossible to repair, it would certainly take more time than it was worth. We decided to replace it with a Seymour Duncan BG1400. On inspection I found the wiring to be very strange, in fact a piece of guitar string had been used to bridge two of the switch contacts. This guitar needs to be battle ready for some high energy shows so I decided to re-wire it to ensure everything wrong was corrected. The tone pot was ready to fall apart so I replaced that along with the output which I changed for a stereo one for more security.
I fret levelled the guitar as the owner had complained of some fruit buzz around the 15th fret. I have previously re-fretted this guitar so I was alarmed to see some low points that almost looked like dents, I wonder if this guitar has taken a bang on the fretboard at some point?
The screws were very rusted making some of the work trickier than I’d like so I replied them for future proofing.
Setup with supplied (rusty!) Ernie Ball 9 – 46.
