Thus ended up being a full on investigation; the issue was a squealing noise so I thought maybe the strings weren’t earthed but they were. Even with all the wiring out of the bass it wasn’t clear what the issues was. In fact an earth had come ion the inductor and come to rest at a point on the switch so it looked like it was supposed to be there. Really took some figuring out! Anyway, sorted fingers crossed.
