This Eastman arch top came in with the owner complaining about a loud buzz, especially when he moved his hand near the pickup. He’d bought a replacement as he’d assumed the stock pickup might have either been defective or lower quality. In fact they were both Kent Armstrong and so in all probability very good.
Sometimes the obvious stares you in the face and you just can’t see it. I removed the stock pickup and replaced it. At this point I realised the original pickup must have been installed backwards, with the ground side (which was probably attached to the cover) being live and so reacting to his hand whenever it was close to the pickup. Problem solved, I guess no there’s a spare pickup.
There was also some chips where the guitar had knocked into a microphone. I did my best to repair them but there were still some pin holed where the lacquer had sucked into the cracks. Any further work and I risk going through the colour so while not a perfect repair, it’s an improvement.
