This bass had a crackly volume pot, an apparent active/passive switch that did nothing and a bad setup. On inspection I found the nut was too low and when I removed the strings I noticed to was cracked so I swapped it with a bone one.
The electrics were messy and the crackle was due to a resistor touching things it shouldn’t. I also found the active.passive switch wasn’t that at all but rather “tone shift” switch putting a different capacitor in the circuit. Once I’d tidied everything up it all worked fine.
Setup with Rotosound 45 – 105 flat wounds.
