Gibson Les Paul Jr

This JR came in to have the P90 swapped for a humbucker as the owner thought it sounded thin. With some deliberation and research we decided that a Seymour Duncan JB would be a good place to start.

I installed a coil tap on a push/pull pot which I replaced for the volume control. The main issue with a pickup swap like this as making sure that there is room for the pickup frame screws can be quite tricky.

The plastic jack plate was cracked so I swapped it for a Gotoh metal one.

The guitar is setup with Ernie Ball 10 – 46.

Jobs for the future include moving the bridge, as the strings are pushed over to the treble side of the fingerboard, I’m surprised the owner isn’t constantly pushing the strings off! Also, the frets are showing some wear and a fret level would be advisable in the next few years. As a side note, the way the strings had been installed on this guitar made changing them pretty difficult, not something I would have liked to encounter in a gig that’s for sure!
