Gibson Explorer 425

This is a bit of an odd one from Gibsons back catalogue. It came to me with a none original bridge pickup installed as the original wasn’t working. The frets were shot as was the nut, it had also taken a knock on the headstock so one of the tuners had been replaced with something cheap.

I re-fretted the guitar and replaced the nut with s TUSQ one. The wiring on this guitar is crazy, having an on/off switch for each pickup. The original bridge humbucker was showing open circuit on both coils so I rewound them. This pickup had the tap on a separate output wire which is something I’ve never seen before. I rewired the entire guitar as everything was “tired”.

I replaced the tuners with new Grovers and sourced a replacement trem arm.

Setup with D’Addario 10 – 46.
