Gibson Thunderbird

The last of the guitars from the band Jungle; this Thunderbird (T1) had a really bad headstock repair. I could see that the break was badly matched up and it would open up with very little pressure. Once I’d taken the strings off it really didn’t take much to break it again. I cleaned out what I could in an attempt to get the break to marry up well and got it in clamps. It worked well but there was some damage from the previous repair that needed sanding out. I filled some of the crack where material was missing and did my best to match the yellowing white lacquer. There was something on the neck that cause the lacquer to react, unfortunately due to the quick turn around needed with this job I had to make the best of it. Definitely not the best “invisible” repair but a vast improvement if I do say so myself.

This one needed a fret level and I shimmed the nut to get a little more life out of it, again to save time (and money).
